About Robert Williams Law

Professional counseling in Entertainment, Media and Finance

Mr. Williams opened a new practice in Clifden, Ireland, in January 2024. Between 2015 and 2024, he practiced as a solo practitioner in Munich, Germany, following over a decade as an attorney at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, LLP and Dechert LLP. He brings a wealth of knowledge to each deal, leveraging his hands-on experience gained from advising on significant private equity and capital markets transactions.

Mr. Williams mainly advises on film and television development, production, financial structuring, distribution and licensing. He also focuses on music-related agreements that intersect film and television (e.g. synchronization licenses, master use licenses, composer agreements, sound track album license agreements and co-publishing and admin agreements).

Mr. Williams authored a treatise on motion picture financing in The Essential Guide to Entertainment Law: Dealmaking. He has lectured multiple times at Bucerius Law School in Hamburg, at Soundtrack Cologne, at the Danske Filmskole and at the Erich Pommer Institute. He has also provided executive producer services on many independent feature films.

Mr. Williams has significant complex transactional experience and project management know-how, gained from his work at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, LLP and Dechert LLP. Having managed large capital markets, leveraged finance and cross border M&A transactions, in 2011 Mr. Williams began using his finance experience in the area of single-picture financing structures. He now focuses on advising clients at each step of the motion picture and television process, including development, co-production, production, finance and licensing. He also advises with respect to music agreements, writer and director agreements, the guilds (WGA, DGA and SAG-AFTRA) and on corporate law.
